...Halloween Hiatus...

...It's been a whirlwind around here...complete with a pirate spouting his own joke...and a Minnie Mouse...with her own Minnie Mouse Jack O Lantern, hand carved by Daddy...and Halloween is a lot different than I remember it...there is multiple chances to wear the costume...and so many opportunities for candy...enough to make any dentist cringe...but we lived it up...and I will be eating tootsie rolls well into next summer...

...and to get ready for all of the big events, we had to prepare...

...they are a far cry from the terror that used to be haircuts...now they are fun and they mean suckers...so everyone is on board...
...and our chief chef got in the Halloween spirit...and found a way to keep the onions from making him cry...too bad the rest of the family was in tears from laughing so hard when he surprised us with this face...

...and Chase's Birthday was very long lived...presents continued to arrive...which made for one happy four year old...
...and we snuck in a visit to our favorite restaurant with Grandma and Papa...in anticipation of the Halloween events, we were also in the middle of a long span of Daddy's travels...and a World Series pennant race...
...so we celebrated...

...and we were lucky enough to get tickets to one of the World Series games and Mom and I enjoyed the game, although the outcome wasn't what we wanted...it was great to go together...

...and then it was time for the Halloween events..Mommy's work Halloween Party, then Trunk or Treat...

...it was so cold that I had so many layers under Minnie that she could barely move...Gramma and Papa suffered through the cold temps with me on this one...they are such troopers and are easily motivated with pizza...which was thankfully the (only) dinner option for Trunk or Treat...

...and then Daddy was home and it was pumpkin carving time...after some snuggles...

...and we headed out for the subdivision BBQ and a rainy night of trick or treating...

...we had to eat the neighborhood BBQ tailgate style because of the pouring rain...
...and like I said...we have been eating sweets ever since...

...but we've moved on from Halloween...my blogging has been slacking...and the temperatures have been dropping so we were thankful that our new coats from Grandma and Poppy came a little early...

...but before it got too cold, we snuck in one last boat ride before winterizing...we always manage to be the last ones on the river for the season...we've actually prided ourselves at times for pushing the envelope...although I'm not quite sure why that makes us proud...
...but the kids love boating as much as we do, maybe more...and they start asking eachother how long until you will say....wheeeeeeeeee....because you only start saying wheeeeeeeee once Daddy is going fast and the wind is flying through your hair...

...this was definitly a wheeeeeeeee moment....

...and we've been enjoying the onset of cold temperatures by keeping the fireplace going nonstop, the blankets close by on the couch and lots of snuggling...we all love the change of seasons in this house...

...fall means basketball is back...and this year we are playing with our BFF...it's been a great season already and we are two games in...Chase made his first official basket and he's even been interested in practicing at home...
...
...and we enjoyed our first Birthday at the Donut Shop...what a yummy idea...

...and speaking of treats...our summer babysitter sent us treats from Germany where she teaches during the school year...the world is so much smaller these days and I am thankful Chase and Ava are exposed to that...in fact, Kirk's frequent trips to Germany earlier this year around the same time Bambi and Coley Pop were headed there for vacation, prompted the infamous quote from Ava, Probably Germany...which is now her standard response to the question, 'where is Daddy, Ava?'

...and sweet treats or dessert is very motivating in this house...I realize it isn't my parenting claim to fame but I am teaching some pretty strong lessons when food is concerned...but speaking of not being perfect...

...we were tired of Chase using 'bathroom talk' in a derogatory way lately...and worse, teaching Ava to run around saying 'poopy head' and 'poppy pants'...so we decided that if he used that language again that day, there would be no dessert after dinner...so he made a conscious effort and amazingly it stopped...not even a hint of it...but when he finished eating a great dinner and was deciding which treat he wanted for dessert...he slipped and called Ava a 'poopy head' and immediately tried to retract it and literally bit his tongue...

...we told him how sorry we were that he made that choice to say that and that he wouldn't be able to get dessert...we stuck to our guns, and we belabored the point so that it wouldn't happen again...and because we did feel sorry after he had eaten such a great dinner that he couldn't have a treat...we knew he tried so hard all day to change his ways...

...and we must have taken it just a bit too far, because he finally hopped up from the table, looked at us both with his hands in the air and said...ok, guys, I know you are sad, I am too, but can we just stop talking about it?  I'm not getting any dessert, I get it...

...so judge me if you want, but I'm keeping my dessert as a motivator...I'm on day four of no bathroom talk and this Momma is happy as a pig in .....well, you know...that these two aren't talking about poop anymore...
...and you know you've been away from the blog too long when it starts with Halloween Hiatus and ends with this picture...

...but in all fairness, Santa came early this year (Nov. 9th!) and we have been busy...but we are ready to celebrate Thanksgiving and enjoy the season...

...hope you and yours are enjoying the warmest of the fall season too...
