...first day....2017....

....the first day of school came and went in a flash this year...as I recount the memories only one month in....it sure feels like a long time ago already....but all the butterflies sure were present as we spent the weeks preparing for Ava's first time at the big school and Chase's embarking of 2nd grade...the emotions that come from 'meet the teacher,' 'curriculum night' and bringing those school supplies to organize before the first day are like none other...and who knew they would come flooding back for the Momma's the same way they felt as the student...especially with a daughter headed off....

...we picked outfits early...bows....shoes....it was all ready....some more prepped than the others, but all with specific clothes, socks, shoes and all laid out....and when the morning arrived....Ava was dressed well before the alarms went off...
...and one of the greatest blessings that we never knew is our neighborhood....situated perfectly behind the elementary school...it is 'that place'....where the kids get to walk to school...where people move because it is FULL of elementary kids...and where those memories of playing with the kids in the streets are born...and we moved in with babies...so we never knew...
...and we also never realized how their parents would become our friends....and talent show leaders....and girl scout parents....and confidants in the development of our littles...
...and people to snap the family photo too....
...or the buddies shots....Luke and Ava share the same Kindergarten teacher this year....
...in some ways it is hard to believe they are two years apart....
Chase and Mrs. Hunt--2nd Grade

Ava and Mrs. Gardner-Kindergarten

...and with the tuck in of the chair from a little brother, a Kindergarten day and year is begun....and she hasn't looked back since....
...and this one is the same way...with free seating this year and the ability to chose daily...there are many more choices and responsibilities in 2nd grade than in the years before....
...but all the fuss over the older two left us standing at the corner laughing at this one....who laid himself down just like this while we wrapped up our morning conversations....but he does love to walk his siblings to school...almost as much as he loves proclaiming every Friday that he doesn't have to go to school...nope, my youngest is fine with the wait for the big school....

...but not these two...they are running most every morning when it is time to go....

...and the first tasks of the year...the all about me presentation....wasn't a chore at all...
...she couldn't wait to create and practice...the only problem was that the paper was so small and the choices so tough...if only you could fit ALL the pictures you wanted on it, Momma....

...but this was the final product....

...and I think it sums her up at this time pretty darn well...some of her favorites as she embarks on the first of many school years....boating, Dolphins, Blues, Hilton Head, Mrs. Gardner, art, Marley and her family....

...and I hope they continue to look fondly on the opportunity to learn and grow both academically and socially....because that is what life is all about....learning and growing no matter what the age....

...and their perspective is inspiring and invigorating to me...it has motivated me more this year than anything else and I am harnessing that energy like crazy...as fuel to drive this entire party of five forward....

...Growth Mode Baby....
