The stockings were hung...
...we are getting into the holiday spirit here, elf on the shelf and all...
...and each and every day is starting with...Mac (our Elf's name) and Calendar...literally...Ava says, Maaaae (points to wherever the Elf is) and then dat peeeeasssssthh (pointing to the calendar)...
...but we aren't starting every day with chocolate and we are trying to teach the real reason for the season...
...and just when I think we aren't getting it...because in a store to pick out a gift for a Grandma or Bambi...we choose things that we would like to play with...with Grandma or Bambi...
...then he surprises me...like today driving down the road and when we pass a church, he yells, Mommy, wook! There is Jesus!...
...and it was a beautiful nativity scene...and he knows because they have been playing with our 'little people' nativity for the last two weeks...he almost has all the words down to 'Away in a Manger'...and at Church he is really enjoying the bells, singing and the trees!...
...but he is also pretty interested in Santa and where his place is in this world...because he has been worried that Santa will land his sleigh on the swimming pool cover and fall in, and then that he will step on traps on the roof if he tries to land there...
...so when a friend of mine suggested dinner with Santa it was a no brainer...and we picked the earliest date available because we were all excited to get this season started...
...and dinner started with writing a letter to Santa...and then some crafts before meeting Santa....
...and he was a little shy but it didn't slow him down from telling Santa everything he wanted...
...and then it was family time with Santa because Ava wasn't having it with just Chase...
...and some funny moments from the night too...photo booths are fun at any event...
...and then later on in the week while I was at the mall with the kiddos...we saw Santa arrive and there was no one in line...so we just had to stop and say hello...I am missing a year of Santa photos from 2010 and I think I am battling it this year by getting lots of different moments with Santa...and not saying no when the moment strikes...
...and like everyone else, I am balancing lots of year end work stress, shopping tasks, baking and holiday parties and trying to still enjoy the season and remember the true reason...and things like Ava wearing these bright red shoes make me remember to stop and enjoy the little things because the season is racing upon us quickly...so go and spread your cheer....before it is all over...
