...Boating and Baseball...

...Chase's two favorite B's were on the calendar for this weekend...and the river has been flooded for quite some time so we haven't yet seen the boat this season...

...and normally we would have been well into the boating season this time of year...but with the excessive amount of rain, both here and up north, the river is still wreaking havoc on homes, roads and people's lives...

...this tree isn't normally in the river...nor is the golf cart parked under the carport behind this garage...can you see it?...

...but the water was finally low enough for safe boating at low speeds...and let's face it...with a three and one year old, the only safe boating is at low speeds...so we planned, made a list, packed the car and set out for our first overnight on the water this season...

...we did it last year, twice, and it was fairly successful...but it was at a time when Ava was much less adventurous and the two of them noticed each other MUCH less than they do now...so we had some apprehension...in fact, our pact the night before was that this thing only works if Mommy and Daddy maintain the right attitude regardless of the situation...

...so when it was pouring rain when we arrived to the river...our attitudes were tested a bit earlier than we expected...but all was well...nothing like waiting it out in the truck with some Jake and the Neverland Pirates...and then we were off...

...Grafton is our favorite place to go by boat, so we already had a slip saved for our arrival and with the high water and the current, it didn't take long to get there...but the boat ride was still enough to get us in the spirit...

...my little love bug is following in bro-bro and Daddy's footsteps and falling in love with boating...I do it Daddeeee, I diiive...
...and we arrived in Grafton as the sun was finally peeking out before setting...our favorite spot on a summer weekend...

...and dinner was sitting outside, with live music, dancing and staying up past bed times...but they did great sleeping together...at their request...and the monitor was looking like this soon enough...

...Thank Goodness for Modern technology these days...we can sit outside of the boat and catch up with friends while knowing exactly what is going on, just on the other side of the door...such piece of mind...

...and catching up with our friends on C dock after bedtime is like getting out on the town without getting a babysitter...those with kiddos can relate to the excitement of a statement like this...and we had a great time sharing the stories of winter, the de-winterizing stories and lots of laughs along the way...

...and morning comes really early when there are 4 of you in approximately 100 square feet...plus Marley...I heard Chase and Ava scheming about getting their breakfast, eating it in bed, all without supervision...but fortunately, their voices are a little loud for secrecy yet...so I foiled their plan...but we had to lay around for a little while before emerging for the day...plus, I didn't want to wake all the other boaters...since I was positive we were the first risers by hours...

...when we finally emerged, breakfast and swimming were the only things on every one's minds...and the pool wasn't open yet...so we had hotcakes in bikini's...well not all of us...

...but the one who could pull it off, did just that...

...and then we enjoyed the pool until all the hands were shriveled to a prune...and then it was time to set sail for home...not literally, it's the turn of a key, but you get the idea...

...this summer surely has more long boat weekends in store and we can't wait...

...and then it was time for the first Cardinal's game of the season and the first ever for Avabelle, and she was all ready...

...and we were lucky enough to be in the fun seats that we had when Chase came for his first game...
...literally the same exact ones...
...and Chase and I were on the same page...
...and so were the girls...
...and the crew this year, needed a lot of walks, and changes of scenery...
...and the day and the weekend wore us all out...some sooner than others...
...little lovebug fell asleep as we waited for the last two outs to rack up a Cardinals victory...she wasn't phased by the loud cheers of two fantastic catches to end the game...or the fireworks that Chase keeps talking about...I think he is finally a fireworks fan...

...and we keep saying these weekends are seem like a special occasion...a lot of them lately have been ending with 'best weekend ever' quotes...but that is what it is...when we have time with our little ones after a crazy work week...it feels like a special occasion...not always perfect, because they aren't...but they always include lots of fun, lots of energy and a tired, accomplished and fulfilling feeling when they are over...like the cooking and enjoying of a great meal, stretched out over 48 hours...

...and while it has taken me a whole week to get this blog posted...we are resting up for a four day weekend for this crew...and we couldn't be more excited...

...Happy Memorial Day Weekend to you...
